WSBRC holds two valuable datasets of local importance, the Local or County Wildlife Sites (LWSs) and Landscape Biodiversity Areas (LBAs).

LWSs are Wiltshire's comprehensive inventory of sites of local significance, which are not included in national or statutory datasets.

LBAs represent the core landscape types of the county and provide a framework for landscape scale conservation of priority habitats and species and are underpinned by Biodiversity Action Plans.

We also hold information for all sites with statutory or non-statutory designations, that are provided as standard with data search outputs. These are:

Non-statutory sites:

  • Local Wildlife Sites (LWS)
  • Local Geological Sites (LGS) (previously RIGS)
  • Protected Road Verges
  • Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves
  • Woodland Trust Sites
  • Bat SAC Consultation Zones

Statutory sites:

  • Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
  • Special Areas of Conservation (SACs)
  • Special Protection Areas (SPAs)
  • National Nature Reserves (NNR)
  • Local Nature Reserve (LNR)

See the Natural England website for more information on these sites.

In addition, we maintain a library of many different environmental Open Source datasets, including OS Open Data, Public Rights of Way, Scheduled Ancient Monuments and Bedrock Geology. We can supply these as a spatial Data Pack saving you the time and trouble of downloading and processing this type of data yourself.

Note: site boundaries are held for the whole of Wiltshire and Swindon area unless otherwise specified.
