WSBRC has mapped habitat and land-use parcels within Wiltshire and Swindon using a mixture of field survey data and aerial photography interpretation and from this produced a habitat inventory for the county.

These GIS datasets achieve 85% coverage of our area, and use the Integrated Habitat System (IHS) habitat classification. This system focuses on Broad Habitat Types, Priority Habitat Types, Annex 1 of the Habitats Directive and Phase 1.

Our priority habitat data was last provided to Natural England in 2013 to feed into their national habitat inventories. While it incorporates some of our data, the NE dataset has a national rather than local focus.

WSBRC's Wiltshire Habitat and Priority Habitats data consist of point, line and polygon data and we add to and refine the datasets at every opportunity.
